Chaitanya Shah of Mumbai upset 3rd seed Vivaan Jaikishan in a 4- game thriller in the 3rd Indian Classic Junior Open Squash Tournament, organised under the aegis of SRFI and SRAM and sponsored by JSW and Raheja Vivarea at the Bombay Gymkhana glass-back squash courts on Monday.
Unseeded Chaitanya Shah knocked out 3rd seed Vivaan in the in the 3rd Indian Classic Junior Open Squash Tournament at Bombay Gymkhana.
Chaitanya began with a bang against his higher ranked opponent, racing to a two-game lead and should have wrapped up the match with a straight-games win, but Vivaan bounced back from behind to win the game 9-11. However, his comeback was shortlived as Chaitanya got back into his element in the 4th game to win the game 11-6 and the match by an 11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6 margin.
Meanwhile, top seeds of the U-19 Category Tushar Shahani and Rahul Baitha remained unchallenged as they advanced to the 3rd round. Tushar beat the unseeded Zahaan Heeramaneck in straight games 11-4, 11-3, 11-4, while. Rahul Baitha also made short work of the unseeded Aman Kumar, winning 11-3, 11-5, 11-2.
In the girls U-19 match, unseeded Sanya Vats overpowered Tanaya M Parakh who is seeded in the (5/8) bracket 11-2, 11-5, 11-1. In another match, Sparshi Mattas seeded in the (5/8) demolished the unseeded Bijali Darvada dropping only 4 points on her way to an 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 victory.
