Central Rly, UBI emerge champs


 

Central Railway got the better of arch-rivals Western Railway by three goals to two in an absorbing women’s final of the St Peters Youth Centre Open Hockey Tournament played at the Fr. Donnelly Sports Complex artificial turf, Bandra.

In a fast-paced and lively the Central outfit managed to capitalize on their scoring opportunities scoring through the efforts from Pratibha Arya, Jyoti Pal and Preeti Yadav to emerge champions. Western put up a fighting display and scored twice through Poonam S. and Rakhi Prajapati.

 

Olympian Preeti Yadav was adjudged the ‘Best player of the Tournament’.

 

In the Men section, Union Bank of India prevailed over  Coorg XI by a comfortable 2-0 margin. The Bankers called the shots from the start and scored their goals through Amit Gowda and Davinder Walmiki.

 

Talented Chirant Sommanna from Coorg XI was declared the ‘Best player of the Tournament’.

 

Hockey Olympians M.M. Somaya and Merwyn Fernandis were the chief guests and presented the trophies, awards and gifts to the players of the Champions and the runner-up teams.
