Big time women’s tennis action returns to Mumbai as the world’s leading players will vie for glory in the 2nd USD 125,000 WTA L&T Mumbai Open to be hosted by MSLTA and Cricket Club of India and to be played at the tennis courts of the Cricket Club of India from October 27 to November 4, 2018.
Besides four of the world’s top 100 players, who have already confirmed their entry, the event will also see some marquee players being awarded wildcards, along with India’s leading women’s players, according to Tournament Directors Prashant Sutar and Sunder Iyer.
Mr Premal Udani President of the Cricket Club of India said, “we are very happy to have got the event back. Aryan Sabalenka who won the event last year is racing on the world stage and we are happy to provide such a platform to young and upcoming women’s tennis players from around the world.
For long CCI is one of the best sporting venues in the country, and we are gearing up for the mega event by upgrading our tennis facilities,” he added.
The centre court, the two match courts as well as the two practice courts have been re-laid, and will now sport a vibrant purple colour with green borders, similar to the courts used as per various international events
Floodlighting and players lounges of international standard have been created. Stands for around 2000 spectators are being set up along with corporate boxes, a media centre, post-match interview zone and other facilities.
With CCI also hosting the one-day match between India and West Indies on October 29th, which will be the first day of the L&T Mumbai Open main draw, the club will be buzzing with sporting action.
