Captain Kandulna leads Western to huge 6-1win


Western Railway enjoyed complete dominance and raced to a massive 6-1 win against Maharashtra State Police in a Super Division match of the Mumbai Hockey League 2022-2023, jointly organized by Hockey Mumbai City and Hockey Mumbai Suburbs, and played at the Don Bosco High School Hockey Turf, Matunga on Tuesday evening.

Leading Western Railway charge was captain Rajin Kandulna who struck a hat-trick of goals to put his team firmly on the right track to victory. Kandulna’s teammates Jay Dhanwade, Pawan Samantray and Pranit Naik all scored one each to complete the win.

Western took the lead through Kandulna’s field goal in the very second minute and the captain converted a penalty corner in the final minute of the first quarter to double the lead. Later, Jay Dhanwade, Pawan Samantray struck one goal each to give Western Railway a 4-0 cushion at the break.

The Maharashtra Policemen managed to score one in the third quarter with Satyajit Sawant hitting the target. But, Western scored twice in the final quarter through Kandulna and Pranit Naik to complete the winning margin.

Result: Western Railway SA 6 (Rajin Kandulna 3, Jay Dhanwade, Pawan Samantray, Pranit Naik) beat Maharashtra State Police 1 (Satyajit Sawant).
