The fight for the top honours is heading for a close finish as the 16 qualified teams are set to be engaged in some absorbing and intense contests as the pre-quarter-final round of the ‘CCI Kekoo Nicholson BSAM Billiards League 2018’, is scheduled to commence at the CCI Billiards Room from Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
Defending champions Catholic ‘Decapitare’ are keen to maintain their fine winning run of form and hope to extend their hold by retaining their title. They will have to contend with MHC ‘Avengers’, MCF ‘Dark Knights’, MCF ‘Tough Men’, ECC ‘Elfies Thunderbolts’, along with three Cricket Club of India team, ‘CCI Kekoo Nicholson, CCI ‘Billiards Boys’ and CCI ‘Prezmen’. The other strong challengers are JVPG ‘Jugglers’ and JVPG ‘Juhu Tigers’.
The other five teams include, CG ‘Dream Team’, PG ‘Centrics’, PCL ‘Beach Boys’, NIA ‘Quaterpillars’ , BG Phantoms and CRMI ‘Star Blue’.
The BSAM on the request from CCI decided to rename the league as the ‘CCI Kekoo Nicholson BSAM Billiards League from this season. CCI who were keen to keep alive the memory and to pay homage to their late President, Kekoo Nicholson, the Cricket club of India (CCI) has decided to sponsor and host the BSAM Billiards League, for a period of three years, starting with this edition.
Nicholson, who passed away late last February, was an avid sports enthusiast and a great supporter of billiards and snooker for over two decades. A player himself, Nicholson competed in various tournaments and also represented the CCI teams in the billiards and snooker leagues and also provided a helping hand to cue sports by sponsoring many tournaments under his company’s banner of Selvel.
The last 16 round matches on Wednesday at 5.00 pm are — MCF ‘Dark Knights’ vs MCF ‘Tough Men’; CCI ‘Nicholson’s Boys’ vs CRMI ‘Star Blue’; ECC ‘Elfies Thunderbolts’vs NIA ‘Quarterpillars’ and JVPG ‘Juhu Tigers’ vs JVPG ‘Jugglers’.
The matches scheduled for Thursday are — MHC ‘Avengers’ vs CCI ‘Prezmen’; CCI ‘Billiards Boys’ vs PG ‘Centrics’; PCL ‘Beach Boys’ vs BG ‘Phantoms’; CG ‘Dream Team’ vs Catholic ‘Decapitare’.
