Matunga Gym 6-Red snooker report:
Luv Boricha of Elphinstone Cricket Club (ECC) recovered well to defeat Ranjeet Negi of Vashi by four frames to two in a first round, best-of-7 frames, match of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana, under the auspices of BSAM and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall.
Taking time to find his touch, Boricha surrendered the initiative to Negi who took the opening two frames to enjoy a 2-0 lead. However, Boricha gradually got into his groove and potted steadily as he went on to win the next four frames in succession and complete a 25-30, 15-27, 57-10, 34-27, 48-8 and 46-41 win.
In one of the most interesting matches, Dhruv Pagaria of Dadar Club staged a brilliant rally to overcome Hardik Vyas of North India Association (NIA) by a close 4-3 margin. In a well-contested match, Pagaria trailed 1-3 and was on the brink of making an exit. But, he did not give up and instead produced a solid fight and went on to pocket the last three frames on the trot to seal a come from behind 13-25, 34-31, 17-25, 14-35, 35-11, 29-21, 39-14 win.
Meanwhile, Sahil Badami of Mazgaon enjoyed a good run and hardly faced any problems as he eased past Rakesh Jadhav of Bhayander coasting to a 4-0 (32-24, 50-19, 39-31, 35-15) victory in another first round encounter.
The experienced Chandu Kansodaria of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation made a break of 43 in the third frame and tamed Siddesh Mulay of Dadar Club 4-0 (38-26, 28-24, 44(43)-1, 34-10) to progress to the second round.
