Bombay Talkies celebrates 85th Anniversary


The legendary Production House, The Bombay Talkies Studios, recently celebrated it’s 85th Anniversary. The pillar of Indian Cinema Rajnarayan Dube had laid the foundation of The Bombay Talkies Studios including Bombay Talkies Pictures, Bombay Talkies Laboratories, The Bombay Talkies ltd. in 1934 which are commonly known as Bombay Talkies and single-handedly made it one of the biggest film company of Asia. With the initial creative support from Himanshu Rai and Devika Rani, The Bombay Talkies Studios introduced several actors, directors, writers, music directors, singers, lyricists, technicians etc who have also given immense contribution to Cinema which was only due to their grooming in The Bombay Talkies Studios.Talkies anniversary

 

Among the biggest discoveries made by The Bombay Talkies Studios are Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, Uttam Kumar, Pran, Gemini Ganesan, Suraiya, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukri, David, Shobhna Samarth (Mother of Nutan, Tanuja and grandmother of today’s top actress Kajol), Madhubala, Nalini Jaywant, Leela Chitnis, Kamini Kaushal, Usha Kiran and several others. Among the filmmakers- directors who later ruled the film industry with their unforgettable and immortal films were Satyajit Ray, V. Shantaram, S. Mukherjee, Bimal Roy, Kamal Amrohi, Guru Dutt, L.V. Prasad, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Shakti Samanta, P.L. Santoshi, Gyan Mukherjee, Kishore Sahu, Amiya Chakravarty and many more. Among the music composers, who got made immense contribution by their unforgettable melodies were Saraswati Devi (the first Lady composer in films), S.D. Burman, Salil Chaudhary, etc.

 

Today six decades later, Bombay Talkies along with Producer Kamini Dube has made a splendid comeback under the command of Aazaad who is a Military school student, Philosopher, Researcher, Thinker, Writer, Editor, Director and Actor.  A new chapter of creation is being written on the silver screen by Aazaad who has made the film Rashtraputra, which is the first film in history of Indian Cinema which gives insights and thoughts of one of the greatest revolutionaries- Chandrashekhar Azad. Another feather in Aazaad’s crown came when he also made the film in as many as 28 different languages of the world with the view that the whole world is a global village today and the concept of the film is to reunite the world through the sense of Patriotism and Cultural nationalism.

 

Rashtraputra was shown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival to the global audiences. Filmmaker Aazaad also gets credit for making the first ever commercial and mainstream Sanskrit film titled Aham Brahmasmi which is being planned for an early release.
