Bombay Scottish emerge champions


Bombay Scottish (Mahim) emerged champions winning the CICSE inter-schools Regional (Maharashtra) pre-Subroto Cup football tournament. In a keenly contested final, Bombay Scottish played well to get the better of Bishop’s School, Pune by a narrow 2-1 margin, at the Hotfut Bavdhan football ground, Pune. The hero of Bombay Scottish success was striker Arhaan Bhat who scored both the goals, while Abdul J. had scored the opening goal for the Pune team.

The West Zone Regional champions Bombay Scottish will now represent Maharashtra in the CICSE All-India Subroto Cup football championship to be played in Kolkata from July 27.

The Mahim schoolboys were a determined lot as they fought back in splendid fashion to overcome a 1-0 first half deficit by scoring twice in the second session to clinch a deserving win.

The Pune lads against the run of play took the lead with Abdul J. finding the back of the Scottish net and went into the break with a slender 1-0 advantage.

However, after the change of ends, Bombay Scottish were a transformed side and dictated terms during the second session and the dashing striker Arhaan showed excellent scoring touch to hit the target twice and secure the win for the Mumbai outfit.

Earlier, Bombay Scottish defeated Bombay Scottish (Powai) by a solitary 1-0 margin in the Zone-I championship, played at the All Saints School ground, Bhiwandi. Arhaan had once again played the key role, netting the all-important winning goal to confirm their place in the regional final.
