Bombay Republicans tame MPT


 

A youthful Bombay Republicans produced a pleasing attacking performance and finished on a winning note as they tamed Mumbai Port Trust 4-2 in a Super Division match of the MHAL League 2017-2018, at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate on Monday evening.

Bombay Republicans worked well as a unit and were fluent in attack as the put the Mumbai Port Trust citadel under a lot of pressure and drew first blood in the 11th minute through their influential midfielder Devinder Walmiki who scored from a narrow angle. Fifteen minutes later Walmiki set up Wasim Sohel to tap home the second as Republicans enjoyed a 2-0 cushion at the lemon break.

Mumbai Port Trust cut the deficit with their hard-working midfielder Jitender Singh scored in the 51st minute. But, Republicans scored two quick goals through Kushal Meghwah (59th minute) and Walmiki (61st minute) to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Mumbai Port Trust reduced the margin of defeat when  Venkatesh Devkar (67th minute) scored a late goal.

Bombay Republicans goalkeeper who made quite a number of saves won the ‘Man of the Match’ award and he received a cash award of Rs 1,000.

The last and concluding league match between Indian Navy and Mumbai Port Trust will be played on Friday, November 10 at 4.00 pm.
