Birthday boy Shahyan has a field day


 

Radio Club’s upcoming talented cueist Shahyan had a great birthday celebration yesterday. The unassuming Shahyan, who turned 13, showed good composure, a high-level of concentration and excellent potting skills, as he held centre-stage with perfect winning performances which confirmed  Radio ‘Fusions’ passage to the pre-quarter-finals Z3 Zodiac Clothing Otters Club BSAM Mumbai Snooker League 2018. In a round of 32 match the youngster showed a lot of maturity and confidence as he potted with consistent regularity and quite comfortably won both the frames he played, which sealed Radio Club’s victory 3-1 win against Dadar Club  ‘Stalwarts’, at Otters Club Billiards Room.

After elder brother Rayaan Razmi (+25 handicap) lost to Dadar Club’s Rajiv Adani (+40) 63-91 in the opening 15-red singles, birthday boy Shahyan steadied the Radio Club boat. Playing with a handicap of +40, Shahyan easily won the second 15-red singles frame against Mayur Shah (+55) to level the match scores at 1-all.

 

Later, his Dad, Neville along with partner Anuj Mahajan (+24) wrested the advantage for Fusions by defeating the Stalwarts pairing of Samir Karia and Rajit Mehta (+30) 87-51 in the 9-red doubles third frame.

 

Shayan returned to the table and carried on with the good work as he quelled the fight from Rajiv Adani and claimed a tight 87-77 win in the fourth frame to complete a satisfying day and the win for his team.

 

On an adjacent table, Garware Club House team GCH ‘Strikers’ struck perfect form to prevailed over Mandpeshwar Civic Federation side MCF ‘Tough Men’ by three frames to two in an exciting contest.

 

In a match of fluctuating fortunes, both teams shared the first four frame and the match went to the wire. In the deciding fifth frame, Sahil Kedia (+50) held his nerves to overcome fancied Rohan Jambusaria (+30) 104-55. Playing against a more accomplished opponent, Kedia with some solid play cashed in on every opportunity to compile tiny breaks before going on to pocket the frame and close out the contest in GCH’s favour.
