Big wins for Avalon Heights, Pillai College


 

The Mumbai chapter of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports national football tournament began here on Sunday, with Avalon Heights International School and Pillai College of Arts, Commerce & Science turning it into a goal fest.

Avalon Heights smashed Tilak International School 24-0 in the College Boys’ category, with Adityakartik Somanchi (6 goals), Rajendra Mehta (5), Ishan Rai and Kabir Vijan (3 goals each) leading the charge. Harshil Khimani also had the distinction of scoring the first hat-trick while Aum Joshi managed a brace.

 

The scoring spree began in the opening minute itself with Ishan Rai finding the net. Almost every Avalon Heights player then got on to the goal sheet to hand Tilak International the drubbing of their lives.

The other match featuring Pillai College also went the same route, with D Y Patil’s School Of Management getting the stick. The match began on a sedate goal until Aashish Lalge opened the floodgates in the 10th minute.

 

He went on to score four more to return with a rich haul and the player of the match trophy. Abhijit Tukaram and Vinil Poojary found the target three times each while Karthik Shetty and Parthamesh Rokade also struck one each.

 

The highly successful RFYS tournament is into its second year and is being played across 17 cities in the country. As many as 4,390 schools, colleges and institutes will first battle it out in their respective cities in four different categories. The winners of each category will then clash in the national rounds for the prestigious championships. Over 650 teams are in fray in the city of Mumbai itself.
