The top two seeds Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye and Taarini Suri strolled into the Women’s singles semi-finals of the CCI-GMBA Yonex Sunrise District Badminton Championship 2023, and played at the CCI badminton courts on Tuesday.

The number one seed Bhatoye eased past Krisha Shah winning in straight games at 21-5, 21-7, while second seed Suri also enjoyed smooth sailing defeating Saanchi Santi 21-4, 21-7 in one-sided quarter-final encounters. Third seed Anagha Karandikar also advanced to the semi-final recording a 21-8, 21-16 win against Kareena Madan. However, fourth seed Samiaa Shah was not as fortunate as she bowed out losing to unseeded Shivani Herlekar 18-21, 15-21.
Meanwhile, Risha Parab of Podar International ICSE School, Santacruz, showed tremendous fighting qualities and played with plenty of resilience to overcome Anvisha Ghorapade winning in three games at 21-14, 17-21 and 21-12 in the Girls’ Under-13 semi-final match. In the final Risha will clash with Imaan Motorwala who did well to get the better of Sarathaa Chidambaram in straight games at 21-16, 23-21.
The 12-year-old Risha almost reached her second final, but fell short losing to the more experienced Thea Sheth in three well-contested games at 21-12, 13-21 and 15-21 in the Girl’s Under-15 semi-finals. In the second last four match, Fancied Riya Vinherkar breezed past Anvi Kakade registering a quick 21-1, 21-7 victory.
Later, in Men’s singles quarter-final matches, seasoned campaigner Nigel D’Sa tamed third seed Ruturaj Rathod winning in two games at 21-13, 21-16 and Shubham Pal outplayed second seed Yash Tiwari cruising to a 21-5, 21-9 victory.
