Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye with some outstanding performances stole the thunder as she finished with an impressive five crowns – winning the girls’ under-17 and under-19 singles and doubles finals and the women’s singles finals in the CCI-GMBA Yonex Sunrise District Badminton Championship 2023, and played at the CCI badminton courts on Friday.
In the women’s final, Naishaa, the number one seed, was fortunate to win her fifth title as second seed Taarini Suri, who along with Anagha Karandikar had won the women’s doubles final, retired hurt due a knee strain. Taarini was leading 7-4 when she conceded the match.

Earlier, the top-seeded Naisha underlined her supremacy over second seed Riya Vinherkar in both the under-17 and under-19 matches. In the under-17 encounter Naishaa charged to a quick 21-7 and 21-3 win. But, in the under-19 summit clash Riya put up a stronger performance and offered quite a challenge before Naishaa with her superior all-round play managed to take control and closed out the contest recording a 21-7 and 21-15 victory.

Meanwhile, Pranav Kamble completed a grand double winning Men’s singles and Boys’ under-19 singles titles. In the men’s final, Kamble defeated Shubham Pal 21-11, 21-17 and later he scored a stunning win against an error-riddled top seed Piyush Kamble snatching a straight game 21-11 and 21-8 win in 27 minutes.
In the Boys’ under-13 final, Ruhaan Bhatia after losing the opening game staged a gallant fight back to overcome Kaveer Mehta in three absorbing games winning at 19-21, 21-15 and 21-17.
