Bharti Vidyapeeth and New Horizon Scholars School scored highly contrasting victories to stay alive for another day in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament here on Thursday.
In a Junior Boys’ clash at the Father Agnel ground, Vashi, Bharti Vidyapeeth warded off a spirited challenge from Bal Bharati Public School to win 2-1.
They sprung into the lead in the 4th minute, with Piyush Padiye scoring a fine goal. Bal Bharati fought back doggedly, launching a series of attacks. Their efforts, finally, bore fruit in the 41st minute through Vinuth Kalkere.
Bharti Vidyapeeth, however, found the net just 6 minutes later to regain the lead. Adil Sayyed scored the match-winner to the utter disappointment of the Bal Bharati boys.
In another Junior Boys’ match, New Horizon Scholars thrashed Don Bosco 6-0, riding on a player of the match performance from Shriyans Srivatsan.
The young striker scored a fine treble, starting with a handsome strike in the 18th minute. He rounded it up in the second half, scoring in the 46th and 47th minutes.
The raid began in the 3rd minute itself, with Swaraj Harpude opening the account. Tejas Devadiga helped himself to a brace in the 40th and 43rd minutes to deflate the Dons completely.
