BEST, Air India advance into Plate semi-finals


BEST Arts & Sports Club and Air India SC ‘B’ team scored handsome wins in their respective Plate Category matches of the 10th Insurance Shield T20 Inter-Office Cricket Tournament, organised by Oriental Insurance under the aegis of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and played at Youth’s Own Union ground, Cross Maidan.

In a Group-A match, BEST SC defeated General Insurance Company CC by a comfortable 62 runs and Air India charged to a 50-run victory against Times of India SC in a Group-B encounter. /Both BEST and Air India progressed to the semi-finals.

BEST batting first managed to score 179 for 5 wickets in 20 overs with Mandar Patil scoring 53 runs and Ketan Dhatavkar remaining unbeaten on 39 runs. Later, BEST bowlers restricted General Insurance Corporation SC to 117 runs for 8 wickets from their 20 overs. Nitesh Bhimte and Sumit Selokar scored 36 and 34 runs respectively, while BEST’s Mahesh Naik 3 for 9 runs and D.S. Garje 2 for 14 got the wickets.

Air India electing to bat, amassed a challenging total of 170 runs for the loss of 5 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. The leading batsman for Air India was Ashish Salunkhe who scored 55 runs and Vishal Girap with 37 runs. Rakesh Puthran 2 for 38 runs and Aniran Choudhary 2 for 37 runs managed to pick up the wickets. Later, Times of India SC was pegged down and could only manage to score 120 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Prathamesh Dubhashi 25 runs and Paritosh Mohite 21 runs got some runs on the board, while Air India bowlers Abhijit Agre 3 for 19, Abhishek Patil 2 for 12, and Kishor Sakpal 2 for 19 shared the wickets.

Brief scores – Plate Group: Air India 170 for 5 wickets, 20 overs (Ashish Salunkhe 55, Vishal Girap 37; Rakesh Puthran 2/38, Aniran Choudhary 2/37) beat Times of India SC 120 for 8 wickets, 20 overs (Prathamesh Dubhashi 25, Paritosh Mohite 21; Abhijit Agre 3/19, Abhishek Patil 2/12, Kishor Sakpal 2/19). Result: Air India won by 50 runs.
