Reigning champions Bank of Baroda had to toil hard for their 2-0 win against Central Railway in an Elite (Corporate) Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023, played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Monday evening.
Bank of Baroda faced quite a challenge from the spirited Central Railway outfit and the two teams went into the break without scoring a goal.
On resumption, Central Railway continued to put up a strong fight, but their resistance was finally broken in the 75th minute. Bank of Baroda’s prolific goal-scorer Sanket Humbe fired them in the lead and two minutes later Ovais Ansari hit the target to double the lead and finish with another comfortable victory.
Earlier in a First Division play-off encounter, Fr. Agnel Gymkhana struck prime form and outpunched Boxer FA by charging to a fluent 5-1 victory. Fr. Agnel’s dashing striker Vignesh Gundekar led the scoring with two snap goals before Tushar Poll, Pranay Dhamal and an own goal scored by Boxer FA’s defender Aditya Sahu sealed their win. Boxer FA scored one through Judon D’Souza.
Result – First Div Play-off: Fr. Agnel Gymkhana 5 (Vignesh Gundekar 2, Tushar Poll, Pranay Dhamal, OG-Aditya Sahu) beat Boxer FA 1 (Judon D’Souza).
India On Track 2 (Mohammed Shaikh, Joyson Chettiar) beat Om Saidham SM 1 (Gaurav Ambawale).
