Rahul Baitha of Maharashtra sidelined Andhra Pradesh’s Ch Arun Kumar winning in straight games at 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 in a men’s qualification final round match of the 75th CCI Western India Open 2018 squash championship, at CCI squash courts on Wednesday. The tournament is conducted under the under aegis of SRFI and MSRA.
In another match, which was an all-Maharashtra affair, Rushabh Vora managed to beat back a spirited fight from Ness Billimoria before pulling through at 11-5, 12-10, 11-9 to also make into the tournament proper.
Meanwhile, Services Vaibhav Chauhan recorded a satisfying 11-7, 11-4, 11-8 win against Delhi’s Shaurya Verma in a Boys under-19 first round encounter of the CCI 10th Indian Junior Open 2018, which is being conducted concurrently.
In another match, top seed Tushar Shahani overcame Rithik J. of Delhi 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 to also progress to the second round.
Goa’s Yash Fadte had things much his own way and just dropped one point in each game as he rolled past Tilak Agarwal of Maharashtra 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 in another first round match.
In boys’ under-17 matches, Maharashtra’s Avinash Sahani got the better of Haryana’s Siddhant Sinha in four well-contested games, prevailing at 11-9, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6, while another Maharashtra player Krish Shah defeated Ajay Rathee also from Haryana 11-5, 11-4, 11-6.
Top seed Neel Joshi of Maharashtra outplayed his compatriot Jay Patel 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 to sail into the second round.
