Coach Jwala’s tips to English budding cricketers


Essex (London)’s Lover Global Academy’s budding under-12 cricketers, are on a 9-day  tour of Mumbai , playing friendly matches with local premier local clubs. On Sunday during the nets, they were thrilled to get tips from  well-known coach Jwala Singh at Oval Maidan.

Well-known Mumbai coach Jwala Singh giving tips to the budding cricketers from England’s Essex Cricketers lovers Academy,  who are on a exposure tour of India.

Jwala also spent some time , giving them talk on spin bowling which is vital part of the game especially in this part of the contingent. He also spoke on  various aspects of fitness and how to improve their mental strength/ health. Jwala Singh also spent time showing them some vital bowling and batting drills.

Thanks to the initiative of CLG Co-founders Piyush Somaiya and Rahul Vyas, the boys/girls were on a exposure trip here , playing friendly matches in the sub continent.


Over 500 swimmers for Otters Swim Gala


OVER 500 swimmers that  include  national and state level  stars, will be in vying for top honours in  their  38th   Otters Club’s open Swim Gala, to be held on April 19 (Saturday) and April 20) at their swimming pool at Bandra (West).  The hosts, who  have produced over 70 national gold medalists over the years, have received tremendous  response from swimmers from both  32 city and suburban Clubs in various categories .

The added feature this time for their two-day event  is the boost given by the sponsors ‘Mansons Foundations’, a non-government organisation, by providing  various sports facilities to the budding  boys and girls, especially belonging to  marginalised  section of the society. Messrs Speedo India , too  have pipped in with part sponsorship by providing with sports gears to the swimmers.


Record-breaking Tannishtha Nair makes clean sweep again


OTTERS CLUB’S Tannishtha  Nair  recorded seasons’s second clean sweep when she bagged five golds – all in the women’s category- in the   GMAAA-MIG annual open swimming championships, held at their  Bandra’s MIG Swimming Pool here yesterday. Earlier in the season she had won five golds in the MCF Swimming Gala – albeit in the junior events.

The collegian from Khar’s Jasudben added two golds  in the 50m backstroke as well as in the 50m butterfly events – both by shattering the existing timings set by Khar Gymkhana’s Avantika Chavan and Zara Baksi –  to add to yesterday’s three  golds she won, al beit without bettering the exising timings, on the first day.

All the champions in different age groups with their trophs pose with the GMAAA and MIG officials.

Swimmers from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Sankul, figured quite prominently in the meet with their Shweta Mhatre setting new records in the women’s Under-50 breast stroke event. She bettered Ozone’s Snehal Bhal (Ozone)’s 2023 timing of  00:47.76. by clocking 00:46.19 secs.

MCC (Red) beat MCC (Green) by 6 wkts to clinch Pro-40 Elite final


THANKS to exciting Mumbai batter Divyansh Saxena’s   brilliant century (116 off 68 balls), MCC (Red) defeated MCC (Green ) by 6 wickets to clinch  the 6-team MCC Pro-40 Elite League final, played at Oval maidan here yesterday. In the process, “Red” took a sweet revenge for their defeat to “Green” in the league phase.

MCC (Red) took a sweet revenge while beating CC (Green) in the Elite final of the MCC Pro-40 League 24-25, played at Oval Maidan yesterday.  

Opting to bowl after winning the toss, “Red” restricted “Green” to 247 for five off 40 overs. Their consistent Suhail Ansari continued to display superb form as he top-scored with 80, while Amnat Hussain too found his touch again  to hit up 66. For “Red”, Harshal Waghmare (2/29) and Jaikishan Singh (2/41) shared the spoils.  However, brilliant man-of-the-match Divyansh hammered 68- ball 116, to take former champions “Red” home with 6 wickets in hand.

Earlier, unbeaten in  league phase   “Green” with their top order batters led by Suhail Ansari (76), Amkush Paswan (63), Amit Chauhan (50) were  well served  as they thrashed “Yellow” as they were shot out for 81.

B4S thrash JSF to win the  MCC Pro-40 league final


A deadly bowling by Akshay Baviskar (6/16) highlighted Brain 4 Sports CC beat JSF( Jwala Sports Foundation) by  8 wickets to clinch the Plate Division title in the  MCC Pro-40 (Plate Division)  League, played at Oval Maidan here yesterday.

Champions Brain For Sports CC, who beat JSF in the final of the MCC Pro-40 League Plate final, make a happy picture.

Put into to bat after winning the toss, the pir of Akshay Baviskar and Hardik Kumar (2/8) just bundled out JSF by 67 runs. The B4S CC made light of the chase and achieved the target for the loss of just two wickets. The final Elite final   will be played later this week.

Earlier B4S CC hit up 292 for six off 40 overs and then bundled out   MCC (Black), by  148 to win by  thumping 144 runs. While in the low scoring other semifinals,   JSF (Jwala Sport Foundation) thrashed by MCC (Orange) by five wickets.

Nikhil Singh and Gupta SC dominate State Cross-Country selections


Nikhil Singh, of Gupta Sports Academy, took the men’s honours in the Cross Country Athletics Championships, organized jointly by  Mumbai District  Athletic Association and Poinsur Gymkhana on yesterday.  The women’s honours went to Archana Jadhav, also of Gupta Sports Academy.

All the qualifiers with their medals/certificates pose with the MSDAAA and Poinsur Gymkhana officials.

In fact athletes, both men’s women’s from dominated from Gupta Sports Academy, while most of the  boys and girls’ in the under-20, under-18 and Under-16 from Rising Sports Club, Star Athletic United and hosts MSDAAA took the honours.

Winners in various age groups were:

MEN: Nikhil Singh (Gupta Spt Academy). 

WOMEN : Archana Jadhav (GSA). 

BOYS (U-20) : Abhinav Jadhav (GSA).

Former Champs “Red” down “Purple” by 6 runs to enter final


Former champions MCC (Red) in a tight finished prevailed over MCC (Purple)  by six runs  to storm into the MCC Pr0-40 Elite League final, played at Oval Maidan here yesterday. They take on hot favourites MCC (Green) for the coveted title. “Green”, earlier had in a nail-biting pipped “Blue” by a solitary run in the other semifinals.,

Put into bat, “Red” batters, led by Anand Tiwari (57), went all out to end up 218 for nine in their allotted quota of 40 overs. Apart  from the bat of Anand, other notable contributions came from  Dev Jamula (50) and  Divyansh Saxena (46). However,  “Purple” batters too went for the bowling, treating pace  and spin alike , but fell short by six runs. Anand for his 57 and two wickets, was adjudged the ‘Man-of-the-match’.

Amit Chauhan stars as  “Green” pips “Blue” by 1-run


Maintaining unbeaten run by table-topper MCC (Green) with six wins, they beat MCC (Blue) in a thrilling one- run last ball win in the semifinals of the MCC Pr0-40 Elite League,  played at Oval maidan here yesterday.

It was a match full of ups and down with “Green: holding an edge in the end. Batting first “Greens” thanks to their top order batters, scored 206 for eight off the allotted 40 overs. The highlight of their innings were the fifties by Sohail Ansari (57 off 62 balls) and Amit Chauhan(52 off 58 balls) .

Chasing such a huge score, “Blue” gave them  jitters as Ayan Pathan hit up 90. He got good support from other batters as they inched closer to their target. But the “Green” spinners kept their cool and saw “Blues” fell short by single run before their wicket fell in the last over.

A timely unbeaten 125 by Bhagya Patel highlighted B4S CC making the title round of the MCC Pro-40 (Plate Division)  League, played at Oval Maidan here yesterday. Bhagya’s  three figure knock took B4S CC hit up 292 for six off 40overs. But  MCC (Black), in reply, were bundled out for 148 to lose by  thumping 144 runs. They next take on  JSF (Jwala Sport Foundation) in the final. JSF in a low scoring  other semifinals, thrashed by MCC (Orange) by five wickets.

Aaqib misses ton, but MCC (Red) win


Former champions MCC (Red), languishing in the middle this year, have struck a purple patch at last  as they beat MCC (White) by eight wickets to be back in contention for the top honours in the MCC  Pro-40 Elite League , organized by Jwala Sport Foundation, at Oval Maidan, here yesterday.

With Aaqib Ali in irresistible form, hammering unbeaten 99 off 53 balls, “Red” were home for the loss of  just two wickets. Earlier,    MCC (White), put into bat,  did well to hit up 184/9 in the allotted 40 overs with Siddhant Honrao top- scoring with 54. He was ably assisted by  Aaryan Lahane (36). While Dev (4/11) and Harshal (3/44) shared the bowling honours.
