Ashani rallies to down Saniya


Nagpur’s Ashani Joshi fought back after losing the first game to oust Mumbai’s Saniya Shivalkar 8-11, 11-9,1-8 to move into girls under-15 singles fourth round in the PNB Metlife West Zone junior badminton championships held at Goregaon Sports Club here today.

Mumbai’s Karishma Kharadikar too was given a fright by another Mumbai girl Shravani Panchal before she triumphed 11-8, 5-11, 11-8. Nashik’s Sachi Bhuse was wayward initially against Kolhapur’s Aishwarya Chappale (Kol) before she tightened her game to wrap up the tie 2-11, 11-9, 11-6.
In the boys under-17 singles, Mumbai’s Bhavik Beharni huffed and puffed before he moved into the third round. With a 11-8, 6-11, 11-10 win over Aditya Reddy, also from Mumbai. In another close encounter between two mumbaites, Tushar Shirose overpowered Pal Gaurav 11-6, 8-11, 11-5.
