ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) scored a late winner through their Nigerian striker Annan Enock to snatch a hard-fought 2-1 win against a spirited Mumbai Customs in an Elite Division match of the District Football Association (MDFA) league 2015-2016, and played at the Cooperage ground, on Thursday.
In a tight and closely fought battle between two evenly matched outfits there was quite a lot of excitement generated at either end. However, the strikers from both sides failed to convert the half chances and the first half finished goalless.
After switching ends, Parmider Singh scored the opening goal for ONGC in 71st minute but Customs fought back restored parity through their prolific scorer Deepak Imrali in the 84th minute. Just when the game seemed to be heading for a draw, Enock from a snap effort found the back of the net in the third minute of additional period to clinch a win for his team.
There will be no Elite Division matches at this venue on Friday and Saturday. In the next round, PIFA Colaba FC will play against Central Bank of India on Sunday, February 28 at 2.30 pm.
