Unseeded juniors Anannya Basak caused a big upset when she knocked out second seeded Mrunmayee Mhatre to storm into the women’s singles final of the MCF-4 Star All -Mumbai ranking tournament, hosted by Mandpeshwar Civic Federation at their sports complex at Borivali here today. Stylish Anaannya dropped the first game over extra point, but was at her best thereafter before she triumphed 12-14, 11-8, 11-1,11-8, 7-11, 11-2. Anannya next takes on top seeded Divya Deshpande, who was fully taken the distance by seasoned stalwart Shalmali Gosar. Divya however, in the end emerged winner with 9-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-1, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7.

Tanmay Rane the top seed in the Youth Boys Singles, who defeated Junior Ritwik Nagle in the semi finals, to enter the finals of this section, also entered the finals of Men’s Singles, when reports last came in. Similarly, Sampada Bhiwandkar is also in line for double, when she entered the finals of Sub Jr. Girls as well as Jr. Girls Singles.

Bhavitvya Shah, the men’s second seed who encountered stiff resistance from junior Ritvik Nagle, in the earlier round, again found lanky Jignesh Rahatwal a tough nut to crack, but in the end he squeezed past the seventh seed 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 17-15, 12-10, 8-15,11-4 for a spot in last four.
