Anannya ,Ashwin storm into youth finals; Shreya goes down fighting


 

top seeded Anannya Basak played her heart out to subdue bespectacled Vidhi Shah, her Mumbai  suburbs teammate ,   11-5, 9-11, 11-6,11-5, 10-12, 9-11, 11-4 to storm into the youth girls singles final of the  of the   YMCA-5th Maharashtra State ranking table Tennis tournament, held at Goregaon Sports Club, here today. Anannya thus made her coached Eric Fernandes proud by winning her second ranking title of the season, ,having earlier won at Nashik.  She was also finalist in the Thane ranking youth singles also.

While another Mumbai  Suburbs boy Ashwin Subranian continued to display fine form, as  after upsetting  top seed Yugandhn Zenda in the quarterfinals, he overpowered Jignesh Rahatwal 7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 12-10,12-10 to make the title round, where he takes on Mandar Hardikar, also from Mumbai Suburbs. Mandar packed off Thane’  Deepit Patil   12-10, 15-13, 11-6,11-7.

Thane’s Shreya Deshpande put up a good fight against top seed Senhora D’souza in the semi finals of Women’s singles. In a seven games thriller, Shreya was unlucky to lose the decider over extra points.

Thane’s Sanish Ambekar, seeded third , having won the men’s singles title earlier, is set to take on seasoned Omkar Torgalkar in the men’s singles title round.
