National women champion and top seed Anahat Singh of Delhi in convincing fashion defeated Maharashtra’s Mona Chauhan 11-3, 11-3 and 11-3 in women’s quarter-final of the 78th CCI-Western India Slam Squash Championship 2023, organized by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) under the auspices of the SRFI (Squash Rackets Federation of India) at the CCI squash courts on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, the top-seeded Anahat did not have break into a sweat as Maharashtra’s Howrah Bhanpurawala retired without even getting on the court for their girls’ under-19 quarter-final match.
Diya Yadav of USA also advanced to semi-final rounds of the women and girls’ under-17 competitions. In the women’s quarter-finals, Diya scored a shock win against joint 3/4-seed Nirupama Dubey posting an 11-4, 11-5 and 11-6 win. Earlier, Diya played flawlessly and tamed Delhi’s Diya Dhillon recording a quick 11-3, 11-0 and 11-0 victory.
Aditya Chandani who trains at the CCI courts was in good form and easily defeated Veer Pusalkar 11-5, 11-5 and 11-8 in an all-Maharashtra boys’ under-19 quarter-final clash. Second seed Ayaan Vaziralli also from Maharashtra joined Aditya in the last defeating compatriot Arjun Somani 6-11, 11-8, 11-8 and 11-4 in another last 8 match.
Another CCI member Akhil Daswani easily prevailed over Arun Sharma winning in three games at 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 to storm in the men’s over 35 semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Varun Shah of England played confidently to tame Saharsh Shahra of Madhya Pradesh winning 11-3, 11-5 and 17-15 in a Boys’ under-15 quarter-final tie.
Divvij Dave of Maharashtra caused a big upset defeating second seed and compatriot Swarit Patil in a long drawn five game affair pulling through at 14-12, 11-8, 3-11, 7-11 and 11-5 in a boys’ under-13 quarter-final encounter.
In a girls’ under-11 last eight clash, Maharashtra’s talented youngster Shanaya Parasrampuria played confidently and put a strong fight to knockout to Haryana’s joint third-fourth seed Aradhana Singh snatching a 11-6, 4-11, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-8 victory to advance to the semi-finals.
