Alphonso Football Academy comprising of enthusiastic youngsters put up a determined approach to chalk out a well-fought 2-1 win against ESIC (Employee’s State Insurance Corporation) in a First Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Monday.
In an evenly contested encounter, ESIC managed to take the lead through Malcolm Blakely’s strike in the 22nd minute. But the academy lads fought back strongly and seven minutes later restored parity with Morgan Ganda scoring in the 29th minute. Later the Academy outfit did well to score another goal through Sandeep Lopes in the 48th minute to snatch the lead, which they managed to hold on till the end of the match and emerge victors.
Meanwhile, Madanpura SC were in top form as they stormed to a facile 3-0 win against Mumbai United in a Second Division match. Dominating the proceedings from the start, the Madanpura side scored their goals through Somesh Thakur, Prashant Gaurav and Venkatesh Dedkar, all netting one each.
In another match of the same division, Tata Power and Chemburites SC played out a goalless draw.
