Akung hat-trick in Kenkre’s easy win


Powered by Techi Akung hat-trick Kenkre FC, Mumbai went on to record their second successive win defeating Next Sports Academy, Palghar 9-1 in a one-sided second round match of the Western India Football Association (WIFA) Women’s Football League, played at the Cooperage ground. The league is a qualifying tournament for the AIFF Indian Women’s League (IWL).

Kenkre had defeated Indian Rush FC, Mumbai 3-1 in the earlier match.

Displaying good understanding and coordination Kenkre FC dominated play from the start. Kenkre got the breakthrough when Akung struck the first goal in the eighth minute. Four minutes later Ritika Goveas scored the second goal to double the lead before Next SA managed to cut the deficit with Purva Kamble finding the net in the 14th minute.

But the superior Kenkre outfit made a strong reply scoring four goals in the remaining 30 minutes to take a commanding 6-0 half-time lead. Akung netted two quick goals in the 15th and 19th minutes to complete the hat-trick. In between, Komal Badgujar scored one before Harshika Jain slammed in the sixth goal just before the lemon break.

On resumption, Kenkre continued to torment the rival defence and added three more goals during the final 10 minutes of the second session. Kavya Jaiswal helped herself to a brace of goals (80th & 90+3rd minutes) while Nabam Kamyi got one in the 85th minute.

Kenkre now tally six points while this was the second defeat for the Palghar side.

On Monday, India Rush, Mumbai clash with Pacangan FC, Satara and later Footie First take on Next SA, Palghar in the morning session. In the evening FIFA Sports meet Amma FC, Nagpur.
