Ajinkya Yelve impresses with a break of 50

Ajinkya Yelve was in impressive form and produced the first big, notable effort when he neatly compiled a half century break of 50 and went on to record authoritative 4-1 win against Shritik Narang in a first round, best-of-7 frames, match of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana, under the auspices of BSAM and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall.

A marker at the NSCI, Yelve showed great touch and played with good control. Putting to good advantage his vast experience, he started steadily by winning the first three frames on the trot before going off the boil in the fourth frame, which Narang managed to win. However, Yelve came roaring back in the fifth and rolled in a break of 50 to wrap up the match at 34-14, 28-20, 40-1, 18-25 and 60(50)-0.

 

Meanwhile in another first round match, Zulfikar Saria of CCI lost the opening frame but gathered his wits and found his form to sideline Rishi N. Of Q Club, Vashi by posting a 4-2 win. Rishi grabbed the early advantage but a composed Saria soon took charge and raced to a 11-44, 33-11, 36-0, 1-44, 46-24 and 44-5 victory.

 

In a one-sided encounter, Sohail Petiwala of Charni Road was on a roll and easily defeated Omkar Gore 4-0 (49-39, 54-15, 32-17, 35-16) to advance to the second round.
