Defending champions Air India enjoyed smooth sailing and cruised to an authoritative 7-0 win against RSF Sports Club in a quarter-final match of the MDFA Nadkarni Cup football tournament 2019, at the Cooperage ground on Saturday.
In another quarter-final encounter, Mumbai City FC scored two early goals to defeat Union Bank of India 2-1. Strikers Abel Fernandes scored in the eighth minutes and Sarvesh Bangar got the second in the 13th minute to give Mumbai City a 2-0 cushion. Union Bank of India reduced the margin through Jay Wadhwa’s strike in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, Air India were in complete control and took the lead when Suraj Negi found the net in the 13th minute. Negi scored one more goal in the 38th minute. Rosenberg George also played a key role by scoring twice in the 22nd and 75th minutes. Rishekesh Shinde 53rd minute, Sanchit Singh 57th minute and Rishik Shetty 60th minute got the other three goals to round off the winning margin and seal for Air India a semi-final meeting with Mumbai Customs on Monday.
