Air India Youth strike late to hold Tata Power


Playing with plenty of resilience Air India Youth struck two quick goals in succession in the final moments as they rallied to hold Tata Power to a satisfying 2-2 draw in a well-contested Super (Corporate) Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Tuesday.

Tata Power were all charged up from the start and in the 28th minute took the lead through a fine goal from Soham S. and went into the break with a slender 1-0 lead. Immediately on resumption, Tata Power hit the target for the second time with Prem Kumar finding the back of the Air India net in the 58th minute to double their lead.

The youthful Air India outfit mounted tremendous pressure on the Tata Power goal and their hard work paid off as they scored two goals in as many minutes to force a honourable draw and division of two points. In the 86th minute Shlok Pable reduced the deficit by scoring Air India’s first goal before Raj Mishra found success by scoring the second goal in the very next minute much to the relief of his teammates and dash Tata Power’s hopes of clinching a win.

Earlier, in a First Division encounter, Boxers FA packed quite a punch and handed Madanpur SC a 4-0 defeat. Strikers Judon D’Souza, Kisna Das, Moh Noman and Chris Fernandes all combined effectively to complete Boxer FA’s big win.

Results – Super Div: Air India Youth 2 (Shlok Pable, Raj Mishra) drew with Tata Power 2 (Soham S., Prem Kumar).

First Div: Boxer FA 4 (Judon D’Souza, Kisna Das, Moh Noman, Chris Fernandes) beat Madanpura SC 0.

Third Div: Byculla Boys Sports Foundation 4 (Amin Khan 2, Sameer Bhayje, Faisal Choudhary) beat Sagar Mitra Mandal 0.

Ummat Milan FA 1 (Gufran Ansari) beat Our Lady of Fatima 0.

Athletic Club Mumbai 5 (Darryl Fernando 2, Akash Dhurat, Mayank Tayshetye, Sohan Pednekar) beat Millat FC Youth 1 (Omair Ratanwala).
