Spearheaded by Neha Shahu and Saloni Sathe, from far off Dombivli’s Agradnya Shala scored a thrilling 39-36 win over Thane’s Holy Cross to move into the women’s quarterfinals of the of the Mastan YMCA Basketball tournament, hosted by Bombay YMCA’s Physical Education Department at their floodlit courts at Agripada today.
Action during the women’s tie between Dombivli’s Agradnya Shala and Thane’s Holy Cross at the Mastan YMCA Basketball tournament.
While the Agradnya girls took time to settle down, Holy Cross girls started aggressively in the first quarter, but the Agradnya outfit took the next two quarters to lead 32-22 with Saloni and Neha, well backed by Sharvari Paste and Sakshi Kotian, shoot baskets consistently . But the last and deciding quarter brought the best from the Thane girls with Carina Menezes, Shivani Katakdhond and Clainne D’Souza making inroads repeatedly to shoot baskets. They almost caught their rivals from Dombivli but timeran out for them .
In the junior under-18 boys section, Savio Club gave a solid thrashing to Vashi Hoopstars 52-17. Also joining them in the last eight was Willingdon YMCA, who outplayed 360 Life Changers 76-26.
