Accountant & General (AG) Office and Nanavati Hospital SC, both scored easy wins in their respective first round matches of the 10th RCF Corporate T20 cricket tournament for the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Cup 2019, organized by Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Limited and played at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur on Wednesday.
In the morning, AG defeated Nirlon SC by 22 runs and later in the afternoon Nanavati romped to a seven-wicket victory over Reserve Bank of India and the two teams will clash in the quarter-finals.
After Nirlon won the toss and elected to field AG Office batted steadily and put up a challenging total of 182 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Larson D’Costa scored a run-a-ball 35 with four boundaries and one six while opener Srujan Athavle (31 runs), Nikhil Patil (31 runs) and a quick knock from Alind Naidu (30) boosted their innings. Kumar Boresa (2/34) and Hemant Buchade (2/46) were the successful Nirlon bowlers.
Nirlon batsmen were unable to rise to the task and were dismissed for 160 in 19.5 overs. Amogh Bhatkal was the only Nirlon batsman to make 44 runs from 30 balls with three hit to the fence and one huge six. Sandeep Kunchikore (28 runs) and Saurabh Singh (25 runs) managed to get some runs. AG bowlers Nitesh Choudhary (3/22), Jeff Pereira (3/24) and Madhusudan Acharya (2/18) were responsible to restrict the rivals.
Jeff Pereira who had earlier struck 15 runs from 10 delivers and for his three wickets and one run-out won the ‘Man-of-the-match’ award.
In the second match of the day, Reserve Bank after deciding to bat first, were restricted to 148 for 7 wickets from their stipulated 20 overs. Ameya Dandekar 46 runs from 38 balls which contained five boundaries and Sumit Ghadigaonkar knock of 36 runs provided some respectability to their innings. Nanavati bowlers Sahil Madgaonkar (3/28) and Rahul Sawant (2/33) were among the wickets.
Nanavati Hospital easily crossed the target scoring 150 for the loss of three wickets in 17.5 overs. Number four bat Bhushan Shinde smashed an unbeaten 44-ball 64 runs which contained four hits to the ropes and an equal number of powerful shots over the ropes. He received good company from Akshay Powale who made 35 runs to soar to victory. Nitesh Kothawale (2/15) was rewarded with two wickets.
Shinde was the obvious choice for the ‘Mat-of-the-Match’ award.
