Aeka Chatra betters National and 2 meet records; brace for Yuga


Aeka Chatra, the wonder girl from Mumbai’s Otters Club, produced stupendous performance while setting one national and two meet records in the girls group III of the Maharashtra State age group aquatic meet organized by the jointly by Maharashtra State Amateur Aquatic Association and  Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association  at Goregaon Sports Club here today. Aeka set the pool on fire as she outpaced her rivals to break Tamil Nadu’s Sherlyn Meghna’s 2010 record of 31.78 secs by clocking 31.69 secs.

This was followed by her record-breaking golds in the  1000m as well as 50m backstroke events. .in the 100m backstroke, she bettered Trisha Karkhanis’ 2012 timing of 01:16.15 secs by clocking 01:15.51 secs. and in the 50m backstroke, she timed 35.11 secs. in the process she also pipped Vedika Amin, who, too, has a national record to her credit on the opening day. Overall Aeka finished with four golds with one national and two meet records and a gold in 100m Butterfly in 1:12.00 secs.

 

Pune’s Yuga Birnale after her  record-breaking efforts in the girls group I (15-17 years) 200m individual medley, added another by winning gold in the 200m Back Stroke in 02:30.66 secs. In the medley events, she  had timed 2:33.83 secs to better her own last year’s timing of 02:37.95 secs.

 

Another girl to share the day’s honour was Aarti Patil, one of the twin Patil sisters. Aarti topped in 200m Breast Stroke by pipping her sister Jyoti with a new timing of  02.47. 69 secs.

Armaan, who had broken two records on the opening day, was again in his element as he swept the field to win record-breaking gold in the boys group III  200m individual medley with a timing of 02:34.88 secs.

 

In the boys group II, Aaryan Bhosale  won his second record-breaking gold in the 50m back stroke as he shared the day’s honours with Yuga and Armaan. while  Siddharth Sanke won the 50m Breast Stroke in the group II category for his second record-breaking efforts, having earlier won 100m Breast Stroke on the first day.

(GROUP III): 100m Back Stroke: Aeka Chatra (Mumbai) – 1:15.51 secs. 50m: Butterfly: Aeka Chatra (Mukbai) – 31.69 secs. (New National Record). 50m Back Stroke: Aeka Chatgra (Mumbai) – 35.11 secs.
