Pune shuttler Aditi Rode continued with her impressive run of winning form and quashed the spirited challenge from compatriot Ssandhya Melash by snatching a tight 21-16, 19-21, 26-24 victory in an absorbing women’s singles (35+) semi-final contest of the Maharashtra Badminton Association Senior State Veteran’s Championship – 2018 organised and co-hosted by Badminton 45 and Bombay Gymkhana and played at the gymkhana’s badminton courts on Friday.
Earlier, Rode sent second seed Linta Mathew of Mumbai Suburban crashing out in the quarter-final by charging to a comfortable 21-7, 21-7 win.
In the final, Rode will clash with top seed Palkan Dave of Mumbai Suurban who outclassed Thane’s Komal Chandiramani 21-2, 21-6. Palkan Dave had defeated Shikha Lamb of Greater Mumbai 21-11, 21-9 in the quarter-finals.
Top seed Aditya Pandya (Mum Sub) and unseeded Apoorva Javadekar (Pune) will meet in the men’s (35+) finals. In the first semi-final Pandya was leading 19-18 when his opponent Nikhil Kolhatkar (Mum Sub) retired due to an injury. Meanwhile, Javadekar easily defeated Sushanth Shetty (Mum Sub) 21-14, 21-10.
