Defending champions Air India were made to work hard for their 2-1 win against Central Bank of India in an Elite Division match of the MDFA League 2017-2018, and played at the Cooperage ground on Monday.
Central Bank forced the pace and jolted the Air India citadel when Kuldip Mashi hit the target in the very eighth minute to put the bankers in front.
But Air India showed that they are made of sterner stuff clawed their way back and their seasoned defender Santosh Koli struck the equalising goal in the 17th minute. The Airmen continued to push forward and once again tasted success with Pratik Koli netting the second goal in the 42nd minute.
The second half, saw both teams trying hard to break down the rival defences, but the forwards failed to capitalise on the chances that came their way and there was no addition to the scoreboard with Air India trooping out victors.
Earlier in a contest between promoted outfits, Century Rayon defeated Mumbai Strikers 2-0 with late goals from Kashung Worchoiph Gideon in the 75th minute and Ligin Fernandes in the 85th minute.
