Ravija,Omkar emerge best swimmers


Ravija Singal, of Gopi Birla and Omkar Nehete, of TP Bhatia, won laurels in the their respective girls and boys under-17 events, in the GMAAA Inter-School/ Junior Colleges Swimming championships, hosted by Mandpeshwar Civic Federation swimming pool at Borivali here today.

The second day, which belonged to the junior colleges swimmers, however, failed to create any new records. Ravija won four golds, winning the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 100m breast stroke as well as TOPPED the 100m individual medley races, but she was no where near the existing marks, earlier established by Avantika Chavan, of Sathaye College in 2013.

As for Omkar, the MCF swimming pool was like his home pool – as he is coached by Kishore Shetty there . He bagged golds in the 100m breast stroke, 100m butterfly and 100m individual medley and finished second in the 100m back stroke. While in the boys under-15 section, it was Aryaman Khataukar of Gokuldham (Goregaon), who bagged four golds in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 100m individual medley and two silver in the 100m butterfly and 100m breast stroke events to be adjudged the best under-15 swimmer.

The corresponding events in the girls under-15 were dominated by St.Agnes’ Shraddha Menon, who ended with three golds – 100m freestyle, 100m breast stroke, 100m individual medley, while finishing second best in the 100m backstroke event.
