Bollywood’s Music legend and lyricist Ravindra Jain is no more. He passed away today, after a prolonged illness, at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. He was 71. Ravindra Jain, who was born blind to Sanskrit scholar and Ayurvedacharya Pandit Indramani Jain and mother Kiran Jain, overcame his disability, with sheer determination and hard work, to earn name and fame, with his music.
Jain had received basic training in music under Pandit G.L. Jain, Pandit Janardhan Sharma, and Pandit Nathu Ram. His entry into films was in 1960 in Calcutta. Ten years later, he came to Mumbai Mumbai , when he composed music for few films . He began his career as an independent music director with 1974 film ‘Chor Machaye Shor’, followed by films like Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Chitchor (1976),Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978)and so on. Besides composing music , he also wrote lyrics of popular songs.
Having composed music for more than 150 films, some of his best compositions were for films like ‘Fakira;’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’& ‘Chitchor’.He had also composed music for many TV serials. In 1985 he won the Film fare award for best music for Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, besides winning other popular awards. He was conferred with Padma Shri by Government of India.
