International Veerdhawal Khade, from Khar Gymkhana, and Shlok Gupta, from Mulund Swimming Pool, shared the opening day’s honours with recording breaking feats in the GMAAA Senior and Lower Age Group swimming meet, held at Tata Swimming Pool, Chembur, today. Veerdhawal set the pool on fire by clinching gold in the 50m freestyle while eclipsing Varun Divgikar’s record by clocking 00:23.70 secs.

However, Veerdhawal was pipped at the post by Shlok Gupta in the 50m breast stroke event with a new timing of 00:31.04 secs, thus shatterin Shrikant Palande’s 2008 record of 00:32.13 secs. However, Veerdhawal, too, broke Shrikant’s record in the process. Incidentially, Shlok ended the day with another record-breaking feat, as he left the field way behind to add another gold by winning the 100m breast stroke event with a timing of 01:08.83 secs
Surprisingly, Avantika Chavan from Khar Gymkhana was the lone woman swimmer to figure among record-breakers. She won the 50m freestyle by rewriting her gymkhana mate Aditi Dhumatkar’s 2013 record (00:27.82) by winning gold in 00:27.62 secs.
