Vaishnavi Bhale, a 19-year-old collegian from Nagpur, put up a terrific show as she shocked top-seeded Revati Devasthale from Pune, to storm into the women’s singles semifinals in the Safal Group-Maharashtra State senior badminton championships, organized by Sports United at Chembur Gymkhana, here today.
Favourite Revati started in a whirwind way as she pocketed the first game 21-12. But Vaishanavi hit back with vengence Vaishnavi rallied splendidly to win the tie 12-21, 21-16, 21-19 in an hour long battle of attrition. However, the other seeds, second seeded Riya Pillai, third seeded Mudra Dhainje and fourth seeded sailed into last four as they won their respective singles in straight games.
Fancied Abhishek S. Kulkarni, of Pune was taken the dfistance by Greater Mumbai’s ViplavKuwale before he prevailed at 15-13, 13-15, 15-9 iun about 40 minutes to make the men’s singles quarterfinals. But top seeded Harsheel Dani hardly faced any opposition as he beat Pune’s Ajeet Kumbhar 15-8, 15-7..
