Devendra Singh, of Rajput Athletic Academy, and Amrita Patel from Orlem Sports Club, emerged best in the men’s and women’s sections of the Rs. 1.5 lakhs prize-money Bombay YMCA 2nd Minithon Road Races, held around YMCA’s centre at IC Colony, Borivali (West) today. Seasoned Devendra won the 10km run in 34:27.6 secs, way ahead of his rivals. While Amrita was impressive as she triumphed in the women’s 7 km run in 25:30.s secs.
In the other age group categories, state athlete Mayuri Sutar triumphed in the 5 km run in 26:28.8 secs in the girls under-18, while Atul Salunkhe of SAI, Kandivali, covered the seven km distance in 24:08.2 secs.
Te event, which attracted over 1000 athletes in various age groups, received tremendous applause from the goodly crowd, which especially cheered young and old enthusiastic women in sarees, running barefoot in the veteran section as well as children from BMC schools. Apart from athletes from City and Western and Eastern suburbs some of the participants came all the way from far off places like Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Uran.

GIRLS: U-18 (5 km) – Mayuri Sutar (Dr. Naravane’s Aca) – 26:28.8 secs. U-16 (3 km) – Krunali Pawar (Rising Star SC )– 11:49.2 secs. Girls U-14 (3 km) – Anushka Bhanadare Rising Star SC) – 12:49.2 secs. U-10 ( 1 km) – Crystal Vadakil (Holy Cross, Thane) – 3:09.4 secs.
BOYS: U-18 (7 km) – Atul Salunkhe (SAI-Kandivali) – 24:08.2 secs. U-16 (5 km) – Niranjan Rawal (S.S.Sahney HS) – 19:32.4 secs. U-14 (3 km) – Akshay Tebe (Adarsh Mandal) – 9:50.1 secs. U-12 (2 km) – Siddhesh Thorat (Nandeep School) – 6:52.8 secs. U-10 (1 km) – Rishikesh Prasannan (Trackmasters,Chembur) – 2:52.1 secs
