Producing a strong combined display Catholic Gymkhana stormed to a facile 4-1 win against Datta Krida Mandal in a Second Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Thursday. Glakson Mascarenhas, John Fernandes, Allwyn Fernandes and Terrence Pereira netted a goal each for the Gymkhana outfit, while the Mandal team pulled one back through Keenan Oliver.
The Gymkhana side settled down quickly and got into their stride and it did not take them too long to open the scoring as striker Glakson Mascarenhas found the target in the very eighth minute. Within the next three minutes Catholic Gym consolidated their lead with John Fernandes and Allwyn Fernandes adding a goal each to give their team a commanding 3-0 advantage. Towards the end of the first half Terrence Pereira struck the fourth goal.
After switching ends, Catholic Gym relaxed the pace and did not seem interested in adding to their scoreline. Meanwhile, Datta Krida Mandal managed to reduce the margin of defeat with Oliver getting a consolation goal in the 53rd minute.
