Seasoned Eric Fernandes eliminated top seed Mandar Hardikar 11-9, 11-4, 6-11, 13-11, 11-5 to march into the title of the MCF-All Mumbai Ranking table tennis tournament, hosted by Mandpeshwar Civic Federation at their sports complex at Borivali, here on Tuesday.

Unseeded Eric displayed in abundance that he that he is fit and fast though he was out of touch with the game for sometimes. At no stage Mandar, a triple crown winner earlier, could match Eric either in power and precision and variation in strokes as Eric was through convincingly. He next takes on Santacruz gymkhana’s Harsh Maniar, seeded third as he got the better of Jignesh Rahatwal 12-14, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10 in the other semifinal. However, Mandar is still in line for a double as made the finals of youth and junior boys final.
Juniors Mandar Hardikar & Manushree Patil in line for double
Ashlesha Trehan, top seeded in the youth girls as well as in the junior girls singles, met her match when unseeded Manasi Chiplunkar scored a thrilling 4-3 win to storm into the youth girls singles final. After both the players shared honours in the first four games, Manasi was down 7-10 in the decider, before she turned the tables by scoring five points in a row to ensure a place in the final. Manasi will face second seeded Dyuti Patki, who got the better of Manushree Patil 4-3.
However, Ashlesha made the junior girls singles final, beating Dyuti Patki, where Manushree Patil awaits her. Manushree outplayed Manasi Chiplunkar 4-2. Manushree, too, is in line for double as she is also in the final of sub-junior girls singles.
