Fitistan to honour Kargil Heroes with fitness challenge


In commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Fitistan Ek Fit Bharat in association with the country’s largest National bank — State Bank of India is launching the biggest tribute and fitness challenge in honour of the 527 Braveheart soldiers who made an ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation.

Fitistan Ek Fit Bharat has organised a community-based ‘The SBI Kargil Tiger Hill Challenge’, which is a tribute and fitness challenge to recall the bravery of our Armed Men and pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in battle and to all those who have been grievously injured in the fighting and families who have lost their loved ones.

“If they gave their blood, can we not give our sweat?” quipped Shilpa Bhagat, co-founder of ‘Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat’ while announcing details of the Kargil Hill challenge, a community fitness initiative, at the IIFL Centre, Lower Parel.

Major Dr Surendra Poonia, VSM (ex-special forces), informed media persons “The Kargil Tiger Hill challenge is to recall the bravery of our armed forces and pay tribute to the 527 soldiers who lost their lives in that war and many who suffered grievous injuries and maimed for life”.

This 85-day event signifies the Kargil war which started on 3rd May 1999 and ended on 26th July 1999. During these 85 days, our soldiers fought the Pakistani soldiers bravely and led the nation to glorious victory. Hence, the fitness challenge will start and end on the same days as the duration of the war.

The participants need to complete 630,000 steps by walking or running. The registration for this event is FREE. However, if the participant wants Medal and Tee Shirt, they have the option to pay and opt for the same. Participants need to complete 527,000 steps to qualify for a medal and 630,000 steps to qualify for eCertificates.

The challenge is divided in a series of phases.

Each of these phases is defined by phase duration, per day Step goals and total step to be achieved during the phase duration.

Phase 1:  Preparation of Kargil war (duration 30 days, complete minimum 5,000 steps every day, to complete 150,000 steps by June 1)

Phase 2: March to Kargil (next 30 days, complete minimum 7,500 steps every day, to complete 225,000 steps by July 1)

Phase 3: Assault on Tiger Hill (duration July 2 to July 25, complete minimum 10,000 steps every day, to complete 240,000 steps by July 25)

Phase 4: On Top of Tiger Hill, 85th day (final day of challenge, to complete 15,000 steps)

The registration for the event commenced on 22nd April and ends on 25th June. Participants can join any time during this period, but need to ensure to complete their step goals by 26th July.

This challenge is a Pan India event and everyone can join the challenge. Fitistan has designed a web-based application which the participants can sync with their current fitness app and record their activity. The app syncs with some of the popular fitness apps including Google Fit & FitBit. Participants can track their progress through the leaderboard.

Over 1 Lakh participants are expected to participate in this virtual challenge from across the country.
