Ace Khar Gymkhana swimmers Zara Bakshi and Nimesh Muley dominated the final day’s proceedings with as many as overall 16 records were shattered in the MIG Cricket Club’s 9th Open Swimming Gala, held at their swimming pool at Bandra . Zara Bakshi set the pool on fire with four record-breaking efforts in the women’s under-30 category, winning 50m Back stroke, 50m Breast stroke, 50m Butterfly as well as 100m individual medley events.
However, Nimesh, who made clean sweep of all the six golds in the men’s section, viz. 50m Back stroke, 50m Breast stroke, 50m Breast stroke, 50m and 100m Free style as well as 100 m Individual medley events, but he could not better the existing marks in all his events.
But Khar Gymkhana girls, Sanaya Shetty (under-16) and Myraj Deshpande (Under-10) proved that they were cut above the rest. Sanaya won five golds with three record-breaking efforts, while equaling two meet records. Among others to sharing the final day’s honours were Forest Club’s Nishtaa Shetty, who clinched golds in all the six events that she took part in the girls under-12 section and Myrah Deshpande, also from Khar Gymkhana, who ended with four golds in the girls under-10 category.
While in the boys under-16 section, Om Satam, from Police Swmming Pool won five record-breaking golds in the 50m back stroke, 50m breast stroke, 50m free style, 100 m free style 100m and individual medley.
The record-breakers were : WOMEN (U-30): Zara Bakshi (Khar Gym) – 4 NMR. BOYS U-16: Om Satam (PSP)- 5 NMR+1 BMR. and Shewet Poojary (Forest Club)- 1NMR+ 3 BMR. GIRLS U-16: Sanya Shetty (Khar Gym) – 3 NMR+1 BMR and Richika Shetty (MGMO)- 2NMR+1BMR.GIRLS U-14: Sannvi Deshwal (Otters Club)- 1 NMR. BOYS U-6: Kiyaar Palande (PSP)-1 NMR.
