Matunga Gymkhana played with solid determination and snatched a tight 2-run victory against a spirited Mumbai Cricket Club (the sponsors) in a Group-J match, of the 3rd MCA Under-19 Cricket Tournament organized by Bhama Cricket Club in association with Mumbai Cricket Club under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association and played at the Matunga Gymkhana ground, Matunga on Thursday.
Deciding to bat, Matunga Gymkhana inspired by Ayush Shete’s impressive knock of 79 runs amassed a huge 184 runs for six wickets from their 35 runs. Piyush Pawar contributed 30 runs to prop the innings.
In reply, Amanat Hussain batted confidently and almost single-handedly took the fight to the rival camp. He top-scored with 94 runs, but his efforts went in vain as Mumbai Cricket Club were restricted to 182 for 9 wickets from their quota of 35 overs and fell short by just two runs and lost the match.
In a Group-B match, Borivali CC defeated Mazagaon Cricket Club by 49 runs and Young Maharashtra outplayed Islam Gymkhana recording a comfortable 71 runs victory.
Brief scores – Group-B: Borivali Cricket Club 131 all out, 30.2 overs (Zahiruddin Chaudhary 39; Jasmeet Rishi 4/16) beat Mazgaon Cricket Club 82 all out, 24.4 overs (Kuldeep Gupta 5/11). Result: Borivali Cricket Club won by 49 runs.
Group-E: Young Maharashtra 150 all out, 28.3 overs (Haridev Singh 31; Rehan Hoble 4/22) beat Islam Gymkhana 79 all out, 19.4 overs (Shaurya Gaikwad 4/12). Result: Young Maharashtra won by 71 runs.
Group-J: Matunga Gymkhana 184 for 6, 35 overs (Aayush Shete 79, Piyush Pawar 30) beat Mumbai Cricket Club 182 for 9, 35 overs (Amanat Hussain 94; Aayush Shete 3/31). Result: Matunga Gymkhana won by two runs.
