Brilliant Vinayak Bhoir powers Hindu Gym into final

All-rounder Vinayak Bhoir was brilliant with both bat and ball and powered defending champions P.J. Hindu Gymkhana to a 20-run win against hosts Bombay Gymkhana in the semi-finals of the Bombay Gymkhana Ltd. organized Nirlon-R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2023-2024, played under floodlights at the Bombay Gymkhana ground on Saturday morning.

All-rounder Vinayak Bhoir impressed with both bat and ball in defending champions P.J. Hindu Gymkhan’s 20-run win against hosts Bombay Gymkhana in the semi-finals.

Middle order bat Bhoir played a cameo knock scoring an unbeaten 19-ball 41 runs with four boundaries and two sixes to guide Hindu Gymkhana to a sizeable total of 203 for eight wickets from their 20 overs. Openers Anand Bains 43 runs (22-balls, 5x4s, 3x6s) and Jay Bista 43 runs (23-balls, 2x4s,4x6s) laid the foundation with a 71-run partnership. Later, Makarand Patti smashed a 16-ball 31 runs (2x4s,2x6s). Bombay Gymkhana’s left-arm spinner Omkar Ghule 3 for 21 and medium Pacer Yashraj Malaap 2 for 53 claimed the wickets.

In reply, Bombay Gymkhana batsmen seemed more relaxed and failed to accelerate the scoring tempo and fell short managing to score 183 for 7 from their 20 overs. Onkar Jadhav 39 runs (31-balls, 3x4s, 1×6), Nikhil Patil 31 (19-balls, 2x4s, 2x6s), Yashraj Malaap unbeaten 26 runs (11-balls, 3x6s) and Pratik Shukla 21 runs (10-balls, 3x4s,1×6) managed to get some runs on the board. Left-arm spinner Bhoir finished with 3 for 15 and medium pacer Jitendra Paliwal 2 for 38 were responsible for containing the rival batters.

Tare, Mulchandani steer Parsee Gym into semis

Meanwhile, the solid batting performances of opener Ishan Mulchandani 35-ball 75 runs (9x4s,3x6s) and number three bat Aditya Tare’s unbeaten 49-ball knock of 90 runs (10x4s, 4x6s) was the highlight of last year’s runners-up Parsee Gymkhana’s convincing 63 runs victory against Cricket Club of India in a first round match, played on Friday night.

Batting first, Parsee Gymkhana amassed a mammoth total of 216 for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Kevin D’Almeida added 20 runs while CCI’s Aakash Parkar was the only successful bowler to pick three wickets for 41 runs.
