Top seed Kshatriya sails; second seed Prasad ousted


Top seed Sachin Kshatriya scored a comfortable win against unseeded Atul Patil posting a straight games 21-11, 21-12 victory in a Men 35 pre-quarter-final match of the Yonex-Sunrise Maharashtra Veteran State Badminton Championship 2024, played at the Bombay Gymkhana courts on Monday.

However, unseeded Pawan Singh scored a shock win against second seed Dasri Prasad cruising to a 21-5, 21-11 win to advance to the quarter-finals.

In two well-contested matches, Aditya Kale got the better of Ritesh Anantwar in three tough games at 21-11, 18-21 and 21-16 in in 52 minutes, while Vipin Johnson encountered a bit of struggle against Sivan Sankar but managed to carve out a 21-7, 16-21, 21-6 win.

In women’s 35 quarter-final encounters, the top two seeds Deepti Purohit and Tejasvi Pilankar stormed into the semi-finals. The number one seed Deepti easily defeated Priyanka Modi 21-9, 21-7 and second seed 2-Tejasvi Pilankar prevailed over Rima Jain 21-9, 21-19.

In other matches, Smita Salgaonkar defeated Shubhada Patil 21-15, 21-15 and Poonam Gandhe outplayed Shalini Chauhan 21-6, 21-4.
