Vaishnav Narvekar shines with another century knock


Aggressive opening batsman Vaishnav Narvekar continued with his impressive scoring form and notched up a second successive century knock making an exact 100 runs which enabled Post Office Recreational Club record a thumping 83 runs victory against Lupin Ltd. Sports Club in a Times Cricket Shield ‘F’ Division match played at SPG ground, Shivaji Park.

The Dashing right-handed batter Vaishnav, who had earlier smashed a century in Post Office’s massive 123-run win against Vikrikar Gymkhana last week, once again batted confidently and was the top-scorer as Post Office managed to score only 189 for 9 wickets from 45 overs. Mandar Surve was the only other batsman to score 21 runs. Lupin bowlers Aniket M. 3 for 51, M. Mayekar 2 for 26 and Karan 2 for 28 got the wickets.

Later, Post Office did well to dismiss Lupin SC for a paltry 106 all out in 22.1 overs. Post Office spinner Shashank Kandalkar was deadly and took 5 wickets for just 19 runs to break down the Lupin batting. Amit Chahar 30 runs and Ashutosh I. 24 runs managed to score some runs for the losing team.

Brief scores: Post Office Recreation Club 189 for 9, 45 overs (Vaishnav Narvekar 100, Mandar Surve 21; Aniket M. 3/51, M. Mayekar 2/26, Karan 2/28) beat Lupin Ltd SC 106 all out, 22.1 overs (Amit Chahar 30, Ashutosh I. 24; Shashank Kandalkar 5/19). Result: Post Office Recreation Club won 83 runs.
