Parthav Kelkar and Senhora D’Souza clinched the men’s and women’s titles respectively in the Malabar Hill Club 5-Star MCDTTA table tennis championship 2023, organized under the auspices of the Mumbai City District Table Tennis Association and played at the University Sports Pavilion, Marine Lines.
In the men’s final, Parthav with his superior all-round play defeated Gaurav Parte in straight games at 11-4, 11-8 and 14-12. On the side table, Senhora faced quite a stiff challenge initially from talented youngster Manasi Kelkar, who unfortunately had to concede the match (retired unwell) after losing the first two games. Senhora won the first two games 11-9 and 11-5 before Manasi conceded the match.
Meanwhile, Parth Magar stole the limelight. The young upcoming paddler Parth continued with his impressive showing and clinched triple crowns, winning the boys’ under-15, under-17, and under-19 titles. In the under-15 final, Parth scored over Aarav Sanghvi coasting to an 11-8, 11-9 and 11-3 win. He reasserted his dominance over Aarav by defeating him a second time 11-6, 12-14, 12-10 and 11-7 to bag the under-17 title. Later, Parth maintained the winning momentum to hand Aaditya Dalala 12-10, 11-8 and 11-7 defeat to clinch the under-19 final and complete his hat-trick of titles.
The girls’ under-17 final witnessed a thrilling and tense contest between Anshita Tamhankar and Keisha Jhaveri. Anshita showed signs of nerves at the start and Keisha grabbed the opening two games to sit pretty with a 2-0 lead. But, Anshit showed remarkable fighting spirit and the tenacity as she recovered from the brink of defeat to turn the tables on Keisha by winning the next three games in succession to carve out a well-deserved 7-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-6 and 11-6 victory to emerge worthy champion.
