Last year’s runners-up Kalina United played with plenty of determination and managed to record a hard-fought 3-2 win against defending champions Air India Colony Boys in a round-6 match of the Kalina Football League (KFL) 2023, organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee under the auspice of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) and played at the Our Lady of Egypt Church ground, Kalina.
Melvin Barboza the spearhead in the Kalina United attack once led from the front by scoring the opening goal. Barboza’s teammates Nehal Salian and Anthony Machado contributed with goal each to seal their win and hold the bragging rights. Air India Colony Boys tried their best to score more goals but managed only two strikes both coming from the efforts of their consistent goal-scorer Kalpesh Rane.
In a low-scoring encounter, Sagar Pawar scored the all-important winning goal as Egyptian Boys got the better Kalina Village Boys Orange by a 1-0 margin.Earlier in a one-sided encounter, Kalina Village Boys Green proved too good for Kalina Rangers and charged to a comfortable 5-0 victory. Strikers Kyle John and Faizan Shaikh both scored a brace of goals while Clinton Cordeiro got one to complete Kalina Village Boys easy win.
In a Boys’ under-16 second round match, Kalina Village Boys and Kalina Rangers shared honours as they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Jayden D’Silva and Ansh Gaikwad were bang on target for Kalina Village Boys while Kalina Rangers scored through Noel D’Costa and Allan Saju.
