Dawson D’Cruz notched up a fine hat-trick to power Kalina Village Boys (KVB) Orange to a comfortable 4-1 win against Kalina Rangers in a round-5 match of the Kalina Football League (KFL) 2023, organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee under the auspice of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) and played at the Our Lady of Egypt Church ground, Kalina.
The KVB Orange side dictated terms from the outset and besides D’Cruz’s heroics Aaron D’Souza scored the fourth goal to complete the winning tally, while Roche Mascarenhas scored a consolation goal for the losing team. D’Cruz was the obvious choice for the ‘Gatsby Man of the Match’ award which was presented to him by Fr. Joshua D’Souza, Spiritual Director, OLECSC and Principal St. Mary’s HS (Kalina).
In a Boys’ Under-16 League match, FC Kolovery Red and Kalina Rangers shared honours as they played out a 1-1 draw. Jayden Cano scored for Kolovery Red while Ethan Saby Moozhayil was bang on target for Rangers. Kalina Rangers stopper Noel D’Costa was adjudged as the player for the ‘Gatsby Man of the Match’ award.
Meanwhile, defending champions Air India Colony Boys riding on the twin strikes from Jaydeep Panarkar got the better of Oceanics SC by a fighting 2-1 margin in a Men’s Open encounter. Nigel Fernandes scored the lone goal for the losing team.
In another match, last year’s losing finalist, Kalina United stormed to a fluent 3-1 win against J.P. United to record their unbeaten run. Prolific goal-scorer Melvin Barboza, Nehal Salian and Lalith Kumar Bangera scored a goal each for Kalina United while J.P. United got a consolation goal through Macdon Pillai’s efforts.
