D’Souza Football Academy emerged champions despite suffering their first defeat as they went down fighting 1-2 to Glory Kaira FC in the concluding Women’s Super Division final of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League – 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza Ground, Bandra.
The Academy girls’ who were assured of the title rested most of their main players to give an opportunity to the younger reserve girls and they still managed to put up a good fight. Glory Kaira scored through Sarvari Donkar and Divya Mane, while D’Souza FA got the lone goal through the consistent goal-scorer Sakshi Repe.
D’Souza FA finished at the top of the 11-team league with an unassailable 27 points from nine convioncing victories. Glory Kaira were a distant second with 21 points. India Rush with 20 points finished in third position.
In other matches, India Rush riding on Tanvi Karamble’s lone strike defeated Rising Sun FA by a narrow 1-0.
Earlier, Rudra FA powered by a Sanika Patil hat-trick of goals blanked Ravens FC 7-0. The other goals came from Jagruti Koli two and one each from Nisha Patil and Samiksha Powar.
Ravens FC who were a disciplined lot won the Fairplay Trophy.
This was the third title for D’Souza FA. They had earlier clinched the Boys’ Under-11 and Girls’ Under-17 crowns in the Yuva President League. In the girls’ competition D’Souza FA finished with an unbeaten record.
Result – Women’s Super Div: Glory Kaira FC 2 (Sarvari Donkar, Divya Mane) beat D’Souza FA 1 (Sakshi Repe).
